LASD – Irvine University College of Law Partnership

Irvine University is a partner in the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Departmental consortium of local colleges and universities commonly called the “Star University.” Sworn and civilian personnel of the LASD have the opportunity to continue their postsecondary education by enrolling in the certificate and degree programs offered by the consortium institutions of higher learning. Irvine University College of Law and College of Business recognize the special working demands of law enforcement personnel in providing a flexible schedule of courses leading to the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), Master of Business Administration (MBA), Juris Doctor (JD), Doctorate in Laws (LLD) degree that balance the demands of work, family and study. Evening classes are offered at the LASD Training Academy in Whittier and on weekends at the University’s Cerritos campus.

Students are admitted under the admission standards set forth under each Irvine University’s degree programs. Students admitted to the College of Law JD degree program are required to register as law students with the State Bar within 90 days of admission; the JD program is a four-year educational program that upon successful completion leads to eligibility to take the State Bar Examination.

Tuition is discounted for sworn and civilian law enforcement personnel who enroll in Irvine University.

An orientation on Irvine University educational opportunities is held annually at the Sheriff’s Training Academy usually during late August or early September prior to the commencement of the Fall Semester. Information regarding the scheduling of the orientation session is publicized over the internal Sheriff’s communications network that reaches all personnel of LASD. It is also publicized to other law enforcement agencies such as the LAPD.

As admission decisions are made year-round, prospective students are encouraged to submit their applications at any time to the University Registrar / Admissions Office.
